SpellCamp uses audio to help children learn the correct pronunciation of words. We use high-quality text-to-speech technology to provide clear, consistent pronunciation of both individual words and example sentences.
Spaced Repetition System
SpellCamp uses a scientifically-proven spaced repetition system to help students learn and retain spelling words effectively. This system is based on the principle that we learn best when we review information at increasing intervals.
How It Works
Initial Learning
New words are introduced frequently to build initial familiarity.
Gradual Spacing
As proficiency increases, review intervals become longer.
Our algorithm adapts to each student's performance:
- Words spelled correctly with confidence are reviewed less frequently
- Challenging words appear more often
- The system responds to both successes and mistakes
Mastery Levels
Track your learning journey through six achievement levels
Not Started
No attempts
Word has been added but not yet practiced.
Beginning
<60% accuracy
Early stages of learning the word, requiring frequent practice.
Developing
60-80% accuracy, <5 attempts
Making good progress but still needs regular practice.
Emerging Mastery
≥80% accuracy, <8 attempts
Strong initial performance but needs more practice to confirm consistency.
Approaching Mastery
≥80% accuracy, 8+ attempts
Very good performance with just a few more successful attempts needed for full mastery.
Mastered
≥90% accuracy over 10+ attempts
The highest level of achievement, indicating consistent, reliable spelling of the word.
Practice Mode
While our spaced repetition system manages regular review sessions, Practice Mode allows students to get additional practice anytime they want, without affecting their scheduled reviews.
